Just wanted to let you all know that if you have a need for inexpensive
ways of getting on to the web, you should check out one of the two
following options:
If you have an old computer (i.e.: 286, 386, or 486) and you have trouble
getting a shell account, you can get software to establish a PPP connection
(i.e.: the conventional form of internet access being sold out there by
everybody) .. you can get that kind of connection using DOS and software
you can find at the empowermentzone.
The URL is:
http://www.empowermentzone.com/
Once you get there, just look for the link describing how to establish a
PPP connection with DOS.
If you have Windows 95 in your computer, and your problem is the price of
screeen reading software, you can get on the web using Simply Internet,
find info on that one at
http://www.econointl.com/simply/
Both the Win95 and the DOS solutions offer telnet, and using telnet you can
logon to computers that offer lynx and browse the web.
they both also offer email capability.
Good luck,
Fernando Botelho
P.S.: I don't work for any of the two people/sites mentioned above. I
just want to make sure that if you don't need fancy expensive equipment
and software that you will still be able to do basic internet stuff like
email and basic browsing.
