Harry,
What is the name of your new verizon phone? I'm assuming it's one of the
Blackberries, but because I'm no longer a Verizon customer, I'm not sure.
If it is, I know there are people on the Eyes-Free Android list who use
Blackberries, and I don't remember any specific problems. I can ask if I
know which phone you'll be using.
the standard way to turn on TalkBack during first-time setup is to power
up the device, then to hold two fingers on the screen (about an inch
apart) until TalkBack tells you accessibility is on.
The android book is designed to cover most devices and most situations.
It's says things like, "To do X, follow these steps. In some cases, you
may need to do Y instead."
I've played with the hotspot a little, but not recently. I don't think
you can use OK Google to turn on the hotspot. I'll experiment over the
weekend.
Good luck with your new phone.
Ciao
