Here is the interesting back story on why you experienced declining
reception of WOWO.
Back in the early 90's Inner City Broadcasting, based in New York and
owner of bought WOWO for the primary purpose of changing it's
pattern and lowering
it's power.
WLIB broadcast to the NY metro area with a directional pattern and lower
power. They are on the same frequency as WOWO.
Inner City's plan was to trim WOWO from it's flame throwing status to
allow a power increase for WLIB and widening of the pattern. Their logic
was that they
could sell commercials to the financially lucrative New York metro area
with a better signal over that area. They discounted the virtual clear
channel
and wide reach of WOWO and what was once a major signal became a ghost.
