I am using an LDG1 External tuner in line from the TS590 to a two
position antenna switch that goes either to my DXCC dipole or
vertical. Jim WA6EKS

Kenwood hasn't made an external auto tuner in a long time.
Here is a
link to Universal Radio's page of discontinued tuners:
http://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/hamtuneD.html
Look under "kenwood" and see what they used to make. Any tuner
made
today that will interface with the 6 pin molex on the recent
Kenwood
radio's will emulate the command set of one of these discontinued
tuners. I think it was the AT-230, but won't swear to it.
Not sure what tuner you have now, and don't know what your needs
are
that may require something else.

I don't know if this is going just to Butch or the entire list.
Am
wondering if Kenwood makes a specific external tuner that goes
with the
TS590? I already have one I bought last year that I used with
the TS480
which seems to operate fine with the 590 when and if I need to
use it. Just
curious if there is anything better that would math the TS590?

As far as s meter, if you turn rf gain down, the meter will go
up, so if
you want an accurate reading, you want that open, attenuator off
and I
think on the 590 they calibrate it with pre amp on, although I
don't run
my preamp on 160, 80, or 40. I don't go on ten meg, that is all
that
strange beeping stuff I used once just long enough to pass my
test.
Couldn't resist, I know some of you love cw, but it never was my
cup of
tea, I had to struggel to finally make 13 wpm.
I haven't used my 590 in a while, but I can look if need be. I
think I
set the f2 button to read s meter and a l c, if I remember
right, there is
a meter button you press to switch between a l c and swr. If
you hold
this to long, I think it goes into transverter mode. Hope I
remembered
all that right.
