Tom,

You can go either way, but  if you get rid of the buffer, you will need 
to buy or build an interface cable.  7 pin din at the radio end, and 
either 1 or 2 RCA plugs at the amp end, depending on if you want to 
connect ALC or not.

You can find cables online from ebay and
other places.  Probably around $20 shipped unless you find a real deal.


Guess you have to weigh the cost of the new cable  against  whatever 
value the buffer has on the used market.
