That's a pretty big ballpark.    I think there are 3 lines to designate 
the ALC range.    I would be curious to know how many pips of the meter 
to get to the bottom, middle, and top  marks.

I'm sure there is a fair amount of leeway in all this.   For a lot of 
folks, if someone tells them they are splattering, they turn it down, 
and if they say "I can't hear you", they turn it up.
