First, I appreciate those of you who responded with a suggestion regarding
wireless routers. I've had personal experience with most all of the commone
retail market/residential wireless routers, and they all work fairly well,
some better than others, but I don't think any of them will fully meet my
requirements. I am desirous of an especially powerful wireless router,
possibly even a commercial grade router with extra long distance repeater
capabilities. I am also aware of range extenders, and my experience with
them is much more limited, but the experience I had was not very positive at
all. As I stated before, within reason, the cost is not nearly as important
to me as results with emphasis on long range. The house I am building is
about 4000 sq. ft., all on one level, and I want to be able to access my
network from anywhere in the house with solid 599 coverage.
Since we all know how important the antenna is, are there any extra high
gain antennas that anyone has experience with? Common sense tells me that
one very good way of extending the range of the wireless router is to
replace the stock antenna with an extra high gain one, unless, of course,
there are wireless routers that come with extra high gain antennas as a part
of the package.
Again, thanks for all the excellent feedback. The one router that was
recommended to me by Steve that looks especially interesting is the Amped
Wireless High Power 700mW Dual Band AC Wi-Fi Router (RTA15) that I am going
to check out in-depth.
