Thanks Colin I still have the iPhone 4S . At least I know it isn't a setting
I messed up. They may force me up to upgrade. LOL

yeah, it's a bug in the IOS8 update...you will eventually get voiceover if
you tilt the phone or it locks onto speaker mode which is yet another bug in
IOS8. But sometimes you have to hit the home button to bring up the home
screen to get VO to talk while on a call.
Also, caller ID doesn't automatically speak while on a call in IOS8x either.
IOS8.1 fixed some of the major VO bugs, along with some of the more serious
lag issues, but it didn't fix everything...I expect there to be a further
update from apple in the near future which will hopefully fix more of the
bugs.
You know, ifyou upgrade to the IPhone 6 or 6+ IOS8.1 works
beautifully...wierd eh?
