Yep I agree with all of your comments on the 480.  Also, I think the 
controls make a little more sense on the 590 as far as wi writing to 
memory, memory to vfo and so forth.  The 590 has separate rf and af tain 
controls, I always that was strange the way you ahve to set rf tain on the 
480.  Dsp is much better in the 590, it is just a quieter receiver. 
Again, nothing wrong with a 480, the 590 is just newer and can take 
advantage of advances in the technology.
