Mike,

My low band antenna is by Hy Power antennas in Pennsylvania. Uses
coils similar to what Alpha Delta uses to load the antenna. Mine is
full size for 80 meters, with a set of coils and extra wire for 160.
Overall length is 164 feet, bent to fit my yard. Also has a separate
40 meter dipole off the same coax feedpoint.

2:1 SWR bandwidth is about 25 khz between 1.820 and 1.845. This is
the prime DX region on 160. Of course I can go outside this small
range, but it needs the tuner. Swr hits 5:1 at the bottom of the
band and also at 1.880.

My external auto tuner won't match above about 1.860, so for a 160
contest, I would put the manual tuner in line which gives a bit more range.

Running power on 160 is a big help, although I did a lot with 100 watts
and a even shorter antenna. I think the natural height you have at
your QTH would be a help.

Hope to hear you on 160 this winter, Steve KW3A
