Yes you must be transmitting for you to be able to see SWR. So hit
the "5" key until she sees something that says "SWR", then key down in
FSK, or FM mode. Make sure your power is down to 5 watts. The
radio will try and fold back power if swr is too high to protect
itself, so just use low power to check things out until you get a
handle on this. If you ever got that foot switch, foot down on the
switch and let her read where the little dits go on the swr scale.
