Sorry Jim, I should have mentioned that I'm using the TS-590.  I don't find any vertical buttons; and my manual notch works fine with just one press of its button and turning the knob to null out a carrier.  The automatic notch works by pressing its button once or twice.  Two different types or strengths or frequencies of notch--but I'm not sure about that one.
