Hey bob,

Refreshable braille displays generally have eight dots to accommodate computer braille tables.

Some computer braille cables use dots 7 and 8, esp for extended character sets.

Sometimes those dots are used to indicate capitals (for computer braille), or cursor position, or things like that.

It’s not likely something lots of people will come into contact with.
