Can't you start with a virgin configuration file?
Don't, at this stage, know what it is called, but probably an .ini or .txt
file in the N3FJP program folder.

Here's a summary of the problem:

If, when configuring the N3FJP logging software, I accidentally choose a
port that already is being used for another function, I can't seem to get
out of the error message, no matter what I do.
 
In other words, closing and then re-opening the program doesn't seem to
help.  Neither does shutting down and re-booting the computer, or doing an
"end task" after control-alt-delete.
 
The thing that is especially troublesome is that I can't seem to use the
keyboard to do anything.  In other words, the computer seems to completely
freeze.
