The only way I can get out of it is to have my sighted XYL work with the
mouse to get to some sort of an ok button that is on the screen that I can't
get to.

We haven't yet quite figured out how I can get there reliably via the mouse.

The keyboard I use is a USB key-board that is connected to a docking station
that the laptop uses.

tSo, how do you get out of it?
Is the keyboard connected via USB or PS2?
With all the things out there, you'd think their would be a program to guard
against virtual com port conflicts.

Howard:

Here's a summary of the problem:

If, when configuring the N3FJP logging software, I accidentally choose a
port that already is being used for another function, I can't seem to get
out of the error message, no matter what I do.

In other words, closing and then re-opening the program doesn't seem to
help. Neither does shutting down and re-booting the computer, or doing an
"end task" after control-alt-delete.

The thing that is especially troublesome is that I can't seem to use the
keyboard to do anything. In other words, the computer seems to completely
freeze.

Tom, I apologize for missing the start of this thread.
What happens behaviorally when the port locks?
