Hi Colin,

I also have used JAWS since way back and I do recall that there used to 
be an assigned hot key of alt + control + J.  I also used to be on the 
private beta testing team for over ten years and that the betas did not 
have the default hot key for the reasons you have stated.  Perhaps so 
many others were using multiple versions of JAWS and that's why they 
discontinued the practice.  As I said, I haven't used JAWS for over 3 
years and the previous ten before that I was on the private beta team 
which did not include any hot keys.

I can well remember the  early days of Dr. JAWS and I distinctly 
remember him back about 1995 or 1996 saying that you could choose to run 
JAWS at start up by checking the box.... or you could use the default 
hot key after system start.
