Ron,
A schematic can be found in the In Depth Manual for the 590 at
icanworkthisthing.com
I didn't find it accessible, but relied on the description Colin had
given of his project some years ago, as well as the text part of the
In Depth Manual.
Basically you are grounding pins 3 and 4 on the microphone connector to
emulate the other pf keys available on a now discontinued hand mic.
You would use 4 momentary push button switches to ground the pins:
pin 3 grounded via a switch through a 100k resistor
pin 3 grounded via a switch through a 22k resistor
pin 4 - same as above using the other 2 switches and resistors.
You could also use 2 more switches to ground pins 3 and 4 without any
resistor. This carries out the "normal" function of pins 3 and 4
(frequency up and down), but the 590 will allow you to remap these as
additional pf keys if you can live without the up/down stuff.
So, including the 2 pf keys on the radio, you can wind up with a total
of 8 pf keys (including remapping the up and down buttons).
Hope this helps, Steve KW3A
