With all of the whining one encounters on lists, I would hate to think what
these characters would say if they were plunked down in a situation like I
was the night before classes began at MIT when my folks dropped me off and
immediately drove home.

I doubt if employers know about special student offices.
I also doubt if today's students know anything about problem solving, 
creating effective solutions, developing their own resources, or most of 
all; personal responsibility.
That is not an exclusive problem for blind students.  Seems to be endemic.
