You will love the radio then. One very nice feature is the receiver and transmitter for repeaters is very clean. My girlfriend can pull in the driveway running 50w on her mobile and I can not tell she is that close. I can also run 100w with my antenna about 70 feet away and do not den sense her mobile while talking on the same repeater. Another awesome feature is the ability to handle a high duty cycle. In an emergency you could easily use it as the transmitter for a repeater and not worry about melting the rig. I have used it to run an echo link node connected to a conference server, or to replace a repeater link between two repeaters for radio club nets with no problems of overheating even running 75w on the 2m side. and about 20 on uhf for what amounts to nearly 100% duty cycle. and I hate to admit it, but once I had it set for 100w output and did not realize I had the rig in VOX mode. I ended up transmitting a nice dose of Rush over 52 simplex. the microphone was sitting on the desk next to one of my speakers and I had the volume cranked up to a wallpaper peeling level while I played 2112. That amounts to 100w at probably 98% duty cycle for the entire album. the only rest it got was when I flipped over the vinyl to play side 2 lol I heard talk about it a couple weeks later and id not say a word. to this day the only people who know it was me is a couple of my very best friends, one ham who lives 2 miles from me and though tit as funny, and a couple on the net until now Bad idea, but it is nice to know the radio handled it just fine. Obviously the fan was on high cool, but the radio was not overly warm even then.
While I am on the subject of duty cycle and long key down transmissions, unlike what most everyone says, th best way to get perfect PSK31 without distortion is leave the radio on full power and dial back the audio gain on your computer until you reach the desired output. Even at normal mic gain settings the radio is clean with psi according to what others tell me about my waterfall display. Not that you need to run 100w of PSK usually, the radio will happy do it as well.
Enjoy your radio and have fun
