Hey Richard:
the only time the vs3 will anounce anything to do with DB on the s meter is 
when it goes above S9...so it'll say 10DB, or 20DB up to plus60DB.
But it will not report signals S9 and below as DB but as S0 through S9.
So, if you are hearing only DB signals, your noise floor is very high.
Try disconnecting the antenna completely and see if the S meter now is 
reported as S0 instead of something in DB.
The VS3 will definitely not say S6DB or something.
