“ECT has had something of a rebirth,” said Dr.
David Casey, vice chairman of the Department of
Psychiatry at the University of Louisville and
one of about 10 ECT practitioners in Louisville
and Lexington. “It is used primarily for people
with very severe depression who have not
responded to other therapies…” such as
medications. “And it does work for a very large number of people.”
