I pulled out of mothballs my old TR-7950 2m transceiver and fired it up only
to discover that it is not working. My analysis of the problem caused me to
conclude that the lithium battery is probably dead. The manual says the
expected battery life is about 5 years, and I have owned the rig for
probably closer to 12 or 15 years and have never replaced the lithium
battery. The manual also says the battery should be replaced by the factory
or an authorized service person. I cannot imagine sending an older radio
like that back to the factory or to an authorized service person just to
replace the lithium battery. Do any of you have any firsthand experience
replacing the lithium battery in the TR-7950 or the TR-7930? They are the
same radios except for the power rating. Even though it is an older
transceiver, it is a really good transceiver, and definitely worth the
effort of replacing the lithium battery.
