Hi everyone.  The IC-718 is a terrific transceiver but, although it 
is advertised here in Australia as an ALL MODE Transceiver, it 
doesn't have FM mode.  The 718 was my first Transceiver, and that was 
8, nearly 9 years ago so it is a real stayer.  You might also 
consider the IC-7200 which I have also owned.  The accessibility is 
the same, very much the same as the 718, but with DSP.

By the way, my current base station is the TS-590s and it is the best 
and most accessible HF Transceiver I have owned so far.

It will be interesting to know what your decision is.
