Howard:

How have you changed the weight ratio in the TS480 CW menus to make it send
CW more effectively?

I have never been able to get my 480 to send CW properly, or at least
totally to my liking, and I think the issue has to do with how I have the
weighting set.

Interestingly, I have had much less of a problem in this regard with my
TS590.

I am sure you will love the 480. I have had mine for 8 years, with no
trouble. The internal tuner will handle anything under 6/1. Many hams on
this list have or have had the radio, so their will be lots of help on it.
If you operate CW over 25 WPM, you will want to change the weight ratio in
the menus.
Everything talks except the internal SWR meter.
It is also a very good broadcast band receiver.
It tunes down to 100 KHZ, but the sensativity seems to drop rapidly under
500 KHZ. That might be because I don't have a long wave antenna.
Also if you operate CW, an optional filter really livens up the radio.
