Well, I can see why that program doesn't read SWR on the TS-2000. The 2000
doesn't report SWR consistently as does the 590. As I recall, a program has
to specifically query it, or poll for it as they say. Right now, my program
doesn't report SWR for the 2000 either. I do want to add SWR at some point
if I can get it. As I recall though, one of those meter readings produces a
beep when you switch to it in order to query it, but I need to investigate
this again.

Sorry if this is obvious,, but have you made sure your power is set to max.
Tap the second button from the top in the row to the left of the keypad, and
rotate the select control clockwise until it starts beeping. That'll be 100
watts out. If that doesn't do it, try boosting the carrier level by holding
the top button in that same row, then turning the select control. I've
always kept mine on 50%.
If you can hook up your computer to the rig, and have a terminal program, I
can give you the computer control commands to monitor and change these
values. Alternatively, JJRadio reads these values for you.

You are correct. I am told that the meter looks something like the scale
you describe below. However, where exactly I am falling on that scale is
somewhat of a mystery right now ; )

A few things on your swr. First the swr meter only works on HF and 6
meters, not on 2 or 440.
You need to press the "5" key on the front panel to toggle between the
various meter functions: SWR, Power, ALC, and also compression if it is
being used.
I really don't know what it looks like, but hit the "5" key until the
swr meter shows up and key down in FSK, CW, or FM and see what
appears. There will be a line of dits that move across the scale she
will probably see things like 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 and so on.
