Fred,
I've used the 704 with my 480, my TS-2000, and my TS-590, all with good results. In all cases, the DIN connector supplies the necessary power, so the power cable wasn't needed. That power cable is only required if your radio doesn't supply the necessary 12 volts, but it isn't needed in most cases.
