Richard, no we didn't have to tune the antenna. You tune it with a tuner,
so there's no real reason to tune it; it's not resonant anyway!
Remember, I don't have the flag pole antenna. I put down 4 29 foot radials
because the instructions said 29 feet was the right length. I could have
put down 500 radials, but I stopped at 4.

exceptions, however, I think reviews tend to be on the positive
side. I suspect those taking the time to review are happy
customers. How much digging did you do and how long were the
radials? Any reason for four or did you just run out of gas? Did
you have to adjust the antenna to resonate at a particular
frequency or just relied upon the tuner?

Richard, the antenna isn't hard to set up at all, although I
don't know
about the flag pole antenna. The hardest part was digging the
hole to put
it in. You'll want to concrete it in.
As for the noise level, well, a vertical is a noisy antenna. I
don't have
another vertical to compare mine with, but it is noisier than my
dipole, but
that's to be expected.
I'd advise perhaps reading some of the reviews on eham.net.
Remember that
you're going to find some bad reviews, but what you're concerned
with is the
overall perception.

I thought the flag pole idea was quite interesting particularily
in that I have a large empty front yard but the back yard is
useless because of wires going diagnally across. Didn't like the
flag pole price but the fact that it was self supporting was
nice. Talked with Tom and still don't really understand the
tuning arrangement. I have an external s g c tuner so that's not
a problem. Apparently they don't use traps or capasetors just
some kind of transformer at the base. Wonder what the story is
with this magical transformer? It sounds to easy which bothers
me. Does yours work on 40 meters and how is the noise level?
Also how much of a construction project was it? Tom seemed to say
that you don't have to do anything particular with the antenna
when setting it up to tune it. As for those radials, what length
did you use? I couldn't manage 32 feet but he said that 12 would
work. Any info would be interesting.

mounted
with 4 radials. It works fine for me, although it does require a
tuner.
The tuner in my rig will tune it on almost all places except the
low end of
6 meters and 40 meters. I'm not sure if it'll tune it on 80
either. I use
an MFJ 993B external tuner that's able to tune it.
