I may have caused QRM for Mike and Steve as they were finishing. I fired up
on 14255 at 0200Z with the beam toward Europe, and was on until about 0510Z
with the beam mostly either west or toward the northeast. My first QSO was
with my brother, W6PR/0. 347 QSOs. Mostly U.S., some of them setting up
for Field Day and checking out their equipment. About 20 other countries,
from Argentina to Kazakhstan, Australia to Lebanon and Dubai. Next stint
for me is 15-meter CW at 1500 to 1800Z today. From 1800 today through 1800
tomorrow, W1AW/3 will be the 24-transmitter Field Day operation about 20
miles northeast of here. W1AW/3 will only be on the WARC bands from 1800 to
2100Z tomorrow, since Field Day is still going on and the big station can
only operate for 24 hours. After 2100Z tomorrow I come back on 15 meter
SSB. There are dozens of operators at a slightly smaller number of stations
putting W1AW/3 on the air on all bands, all modes, including the WARC bands.
Just like the 20-meter net, there were a lot of stations who were difficult
for me to copy last night; others were quite strong. I worked only
transceive, CW might be different. I think we had a mixture of the F layer
and sporadic-E. Solar activity is quite low again, but rising slowly.
Sometime this weekend I have to pack for the NFB convention and the NLS
exhibit there. I hope to see all of you in the pileups!
