Of course Jim can address this, but if I remember you are using a 590.
In order to use the USB port on the 590 you need to install the
virtual comm driver from Kenwood (free). So you would use a USB from
pc to radio, but the virtual comm driver installs as a comm port, so
that is what Jim's software (or other logging/control programs) see.
One nice thing about the 590 is that you can run 2 software packages at
the same time: one on the rs-232 port and the other on the USB port
using the virtual driver. So if desired, you could run a logger on one
port and control software on the other and they won't conflict.
