I don't know if this will go through, but here goes...
From an old post by Tom K4TOJ:
With the VSG-1 option installed you can record up to 4 times without the
continuous
recording option enabled or 3 with it enabled (It's reserved for CH4).
Basic operation
of the VGG-1 recording options follow:
To record, use the following steps:
- Press and hold the CH# button you wish to save your recording to.
- You will hear a few quick beeps with AP # displayed where the #
corresponds to
the CH# button you pushed.
- You will also see three dashes --- where the recording count down timer
will be
displayed while you are recording.
- Press and hold the CH# button again - KEEP IT PRESSED - the whole time
you want
to record. You'll see the numbers count down on the display to let you
know how much
you have left to record.
- When you release the CH# button, you will see WRITING display.
- Recording is complete when WRITING disappears from the display.
- Be advised that CH 1 & 2 allow for 30 second voice recordings while CH 3
& 4 allow
for 15 second voice recordings (exception is made for constant recording
in CH 4.
To check your recordings, use the following steps:
- Ensure your VOX is OFF unless you are transmitting in to a dummy load.
- Press and release the CH# button you would like to listen to.
- Your recording will play.
- If you would like to stop your recording, press the CLR button (remember
that if
you press it by mistake)
- Note - if you have firmware 1.07 applied, you can key the mic, operate
the keyer
paddle, or press one of the CH# buttons in addition to the CLR button to
stop the
playback. This is helpful if you press the button while VOX is on by
mistake.
- If you would like to play your recording multiple times, press the CH#
button up
to 4 times. You'll see a vertical line | for each time it will replay and
a dash
- for the rest of the "available" slots.
To play your recordings over the air:
- Ensure VOX is on and press the CH# button you wish to play. -OR-
- You can also key the rig, or press the SEND key before pressing the CH#
button
To Clear a recording:
- Press and hold the CH# button until AP # appears.
- Press and hold the CH# button again, then press the CLR button to clear
the contents
of the recording.
- A beep will sound when the recording is erased.
Some hints in using the VSG-1:
- To enable constant recording to CH4, go to menu 55 and select ON. It
keeps the
last 30 seconds of receive ready to listen to.
- To play back the constant recording on CH4, set the "normal" volume to
min with
the AF and press the CH4 button. You'll see WRITING on the display. When
that completes
the recording will start playing. You can hit the CLR button to stop
playback (or
see Firmware 1.07 note above). You can play it back multiple times by
pressing the
CH4 button again. (Note, this will not play over the air - even with VOX
enabled)
- To change the volume of the recording playback, go to menu 05 and adjust
- To change the time between recording repeat playbacks (Inter-Message
Interval Time,
go to menu 57. The setting is in seconds from 1 - 60.
- To play another message immediately after the one that is currently
playing, press
the corresponding CH# button. You can have up to 4 play in sequence. For
instance,
you can play CH1, then CH3, then CH2 by pressing CH1, CH3, CH2 in
sequence.
- To continuously play back a message, go to menu 56 and select ON. Use
menu 57 to
set the interval - default is 10 seconds. To stop playing, hit the CLR or
power button.
I hope that helps clarify it for some people. The key to understanding it
is knowing
that you need to put the channel in to edit mode first by pressing and
holding it
until AP # appears.
