Not ham related but topic related. I recently received an email
from Facebook, which I never use, regarding a birthday
notification about a friend of mine who died a couple of years
ago. I wonder how long that will continue? Jim WA6EKS

You really should report SK's to the FCC. There are folks out
there who send
NTS messages to those who's licenses are about to expire and that
causes a
lot of grief when someone tries to delivers them to a grieving
family
member. Really, I don't know about being required but it is
strongly
suggested that you do it anyway.

No, I'm sorry I don't know what the process is. I think it is
an
option you have. It was at one time anyway. If you can find
info on
the FCC's vanity call sign program, it would be covered there.

 Hi,

That would be a good idea. I like my call, but maybe I can take
his call,
and give mine up. Do you know what I would have to do?

 Carolyn,

I'm very sorry to hear this. You must be reeling. If I
understand
your question, you don't need to report anything. When his
license
has reached the end of it's term, it will lapse, whether it's
next year,
or 8 years down the road. You don't need to do anything. I
think
after the license has lapsed, there is a 2 year period, after
which the
call sign is put back into the pool to be reissued.

I think that if you or another ham in the family wants to take
this call
as a vanity call, there is a process to do this, but I really
don't
know the procedure or the time frame.

In any event you have too much on your plate right now. Don't
give any
of this junk a moment's thought.

 73, stay well, Steve KW3A
