Hello, and thanks to all who responded about GF travel in Scotland. I
was seeking affirmation that GF awareness is good in Scotland (not
necessarily specific restaurant recommendations)--and I received it!
The general feeling is that awareness is high, and that even small shops
can accomodate a GF traveler. Here is an excerpt from Peter, who lives
in the UK, and has his finger on the pulse, and which nicely summarizes
the responses I received:
"You should have plenty of options for GF eating in all of the UK in
general, which of course includes Scotland (at the moment!). I live in
North Yorkshire, but have been to many parts of the UK (including
Edinburgh) since I was diagnosed in 2002 and have not had any problems
finding GF food, either in a pub / restaurant or in a supermarket. The
current standard in the European Union for food labelling for food,
other than fresh food, bought in shops ensures that all ingredients must
be listed on the outside of the packing, with common allergens,
including of course gluten, listed in bold type. So food shopping may
take a little longer checking, but you are safe."
Great news! Thanks everyone!
