No, I don't think it has to do with the serial port. Just to the left
of the serial port are 2 mini DIN jacks, a 6 pin and an 8 pin. The
little jig would plug into one of these. I'm not sure if the firmware
updating switch under the cover also needs to be used so the service
firmware can be loaded. I guess the bottom line is that this isn't for
the faint of heart.
