Nobody lives in the ideal plane.  Their will be some theoretical effects 
because of the metal, but you work with what you have.  With most of the 
antenna in the clear, radials, and ground conductivity are more important. 
Besides, you can control radials, but their is nothing you can do about the 
walls.  You will never have the perfect antenna system, or the perfect 
location anyway.
Operate with what you can and enjoy it!!!
