Allstar is another Radio over IP technology. It's somewhat similar to IRLP
(internet radio linking project) in that it interfaces Linux computers with
simplex radios or repeaters then bridges those radios to others over the
internet under user control. The big difference is that the Allstar system
is completely open source whereas IRLP has proprietary software and source
code isn't available.

Allstar is based on the open source Asterisk PBX telephone software. Using
touch tone, a user of an Allstar repeater or simplex node can direct that
node to connect to another Allstar repeater or simplex node.

The Allstar software also supports Echolink connections to the Allstar
repeater which is how my KY2D-R system can host these Echolink conferences.
It is a live, on-the-air system so those connecting via Echolink are on the
air here in Morristown and on any other Allstar nodes that are connected to
mine at the time.

Probably more than you wanted to know but you did ask. (smile)

73, Jim
