Hi Richard,
You can indeed use Thunderbird for a GMail account. you must configure
the Thunderbird program for GMail pop3 settings. Once configured, then
you have to log into your e-mail web account and set it to direct your
mail to a pop3 client. If you need further information, I can look some
of that stuff up for you if someone on list doesn't have it committed to
memory already.
