I don't have the ground plane kit, but I am very disappointed with my imax
2000.
I am comparing it to an 80 meter double extended zepp here.
The imax radiates better than the zepp on 10, 12, 15, and on 17 meter DX.
Unfortunately the transmit gain is more than off set by the gain in receiver
noise. You have to hear them to work them.
If I was going to put up a vertical, I'd use a 23 foot radiating element,
with 23 foot radials, and an automatic tuner at the bottom of the antenna.
