Subject: Echolink conference for the list
The blind hams group has had HF nets on Saturday and Sunday for years and
now recently, we're trying the evening 40 meter get-togethers. Some list
members have requested an Echolink meeting for those who can't get on HF or
are to remote to reach the group given current propagation.
I run an Allstar repeater that also connects with Echolink. I've never had
more than 5 connections at a time but I recently revised the configuration
to allow 40 connections and am willing to try hosting an Echolink / Allstar
network roundtable.
I'll be there tonight at 8:00 pm and will attempt to coordinate. If you have
access to an Allstar repeater, connect to node 2396. If you are on Echolink,
connect to ky2d-r which is node 798782.
I know some hams think Echolink isn't "real" ham radio but I don't want to
get into that debate. This node is indeed on the air so all Echolink audio
becomes transmissions on the air here in Morristown on 2 meters and on the
air elsewhere on 2m or 70cm on other Allstar nodes in Pennsylvania and Texas
that are connected to the KY2D-R repeater. Personally, I find Radio over IP
systems and technology very interesting and have been experimenting with it
for several years. This current Allstar/Echolink repeater is controlled by a
Beagle Bone Black $50 Linux system.
If interested, see you tonight at 8:00 eastern.
73, Jim
