Ok well it shows 9600 on both the software, com port; and radio; but, hadn't
tried turning the radio off once changed or set the baud rate.
So will give that a try as like said was working either earlier this month
or last month when connected using the software to the radio.
Thanks.

Are you sure the baud rates match in both the radio and software? I know
this applies to the 2000 and 590 and assume it also applies to the
480: If you change baud rate in the radio, you need to turn the radio off
and then back on to have the change take effect.

I know the radio and software can be set to some pretty high baud rates,
but sometimes this can cause problems if set too high. Try backing
radio and software down to something like 9600 and see if it works.

Do you use any logging software with this setup that has rig control?
If so, you can confirm that your hardware and connections are good and
narrow it down to the Kenwood software.

Since it worked before, I assume you are using the correct "straight
through" cable and not a "null modem" cable.
