Linda, what are you going to use for a ground plain underneath
the antenna? You will get much better performance from it if it's
mounted on a flat metal surface, maybe a large pan or Tv tray.
There are other antennas like j poles that work fine and don't
require a ground plain. But maybe your circumstances limit your

Ok yall,
After great thought and talking to the dealer, I finalized the
order for the
rig today.
We settled on the mx270 dual band 2 meter/440 mobile antenna
instead of the
Comet GP1 dual band, single section, fiberglass vertical base
antenna simply
because the mag mount mx-270 will be the easiest for my
situation.
I really don't have a way to mount the Comet GP1 and this will be
simpler.
The specs on the mx-270 is:
Hustler MX-270
The Hustler MX-270 is a quality 2 meter and 440 MHz mobile
antenna
providing 2.4/4.0 dB gain. It covers 144-148 and 440-450 MHz.
The MX-270
features
a low-loss 50 ohm NMO type magnetic mount. This antenna can
handle up to
100 watts. Coax cable to a PL-259 plug is supplied.
This antenna is approximately 44 inches high. The magnetic base,
base coil
and center coil are black. The whip is silver colored.
The photo on the left only shows the base and base coil, but this
is a
complete antenna with whip element and supplied RG58 coax
terminating to an
installed
PL259 plug.
I also re-enstated the original order for the 50 ft coaxial as
the mx-270
has a 17 ft coaxial and we will get the coax connecters as well.
The dealer has been very kind and understanding as I am just
still sort of a
novice and have a lot to learn.
