You've already gotten several replies and I don't know what this list is set 
for, but in the header file that control's the list using L-Soft on the 
listserver, there is a command line where you, meaning the owner or any 
moderators, if any, can set line length per message.  My list, much smaller 
in membership that blind-hams, is never the less the type of list where 
people forward to the list large articles.  I set my list to 2000 lines but 
I think the default was originally for 100 or 200 or something like that. 
My Christian list, that operates as sort of a Christian support group and is 
called echurch-USA, sometimes receives long articles from different 
subscribers and ICORS, which is the site providing us this, and a couple 
hundred other mailing lists free of charge, asks us to keep email smaller 
and not post larges message but break them up.  The traffic on the ICORS 
system is astronomical but I just exchange header command files with Ken 
because he is working at tracking down the equal sign problem so he is using 
my header file to compare with his to see where the differences are.  This 
same reasoning is like why most lists don't allow attachments; they are just 
too large for a busy system.  It is just a matter of asking Ken to bump up 
the "size of lines" and larger forward text can be passed through without 
getting that bounced message.  Frankly, if message on my own list are too 
long, people break them up so if I don't wish to read more, I just delete 
the following parts.  If Ken hasn't seen this thread, I'll ask him about 
bumping the line count up because a 500 lines message isn't all that long.
