Lou, I concur with your assessment of the Streams recording
qualities as compared to the BookPort Plus and the Plextalk.
However, you should know that the recording features on the new
version of the Stream have been seriously enhanced over the older
version, with several MP3 rates and 16k 4400 wave recording as
well as adjustable volume settings, stereo, and external line in
and Mic capabilities. The new Stream of course also has internet
capabilities. Having said that, I would still use a plextalk to
record music over the Stream because there are some kind of
strange recording artifacts on even the 16k stereo wave files
when recording on the New Stream. I haven't yet played a test
file on my PC using say Studio Recorder or Winamp to determine if
the artifacts are internal to the Stream or are actually part of
the recorded file. In any case, the new Stream has far more
capabilities than the older version. Having said that, I have no
experience with IPhones or IPods, but I would bet they have as
much or more capabilities over even the new stream. 73, Jim

Howard,

Now that the BARD app is available, the answer to that is no. I
have a first
generation stream and love it because I like having a dedicated
reading unit
but an IOS device will do all those things. Additionally, the
stream
recording is not the best. From what I understand, the recording
function in
the bookport plus and the plex-talk pocket is greatly superior to
that in
the stream. Lou WA3MIX

I was dreaming about buying a victor stream when I can, then it
suddenly
 dawned on me.
Does the stream do anything that an i-pod doesn't do? Yes I
know it does
everything much more easily, but what about function?
