Lou,
I did a Google on "audio .snd format" and found several references. In your
phone system case, it's most likely an alternate extension for the Sun .au
format. You should be able to create what you need as foo.au then just
rename it foo.snd and you should be set. If you can't create .au directly,
the sox command in Linux can convert into .au from just about anything.

Is anyone familiar with the .snd audio format?  I have a client who wants
his music on hold announcements in that format to accommodate his new phone
system but none of my audio programs will save in that format.  Any info
