Thank you Steve. That's a really good description and I appreciate it. I
haven't read the user manual much yet as I wanted to get some idea as to
what controls were where before I read that. I say that because the manual
may have given me the info on those knobs but I guess I was just too
impatient.
Thank you very much,

Hi Kent,
If I understand your question correctly, here goes:
Knob at the bottom right of the front panel is volume and RF gain. The
inner knob is AF gain (volume control), and the outer knob is RF gain.
For starters, make sure the RF gain (outer knob) is full clockwise,
or you will lose signal. The inner knob, AF gain/volume is
clockwise makes the volume louder.
Knob to the left of the one mentioned above:
These are the high and low cut of the filter bandwidth in voice mode, and
bandwidth and shift in cw
In ssb, the outer knob is low cut and the inner knob is high cut.
These will speak as you turn the knobs and the voice will give you the
values. Adjust the high and low cut of the filters for your liking
In cw, the outer knob sets bandwidth and the inner knob sets shift.
If you want to use the cw auto tune feature, you can't have the filter
set too wide, or the shift too high, or auto tune won't grab the signal.
So turn it on and play with it. Have fun, Steve KW3A
