Hi Kent,

If I understand your question correctly, here goes:

Knob at the bottom right of the front panel is volume and RF gain.   The 
inner knob is AF gain (volume control), and the outer knob is  RF gain. 
   For starters, make sure the RF gain (outer knob) is full  clockwise, 
or you will lose  signal.    The inner knob, AF gain/volume is 
clockwise makes  the volume louder.

These are the high and low cut of the filter bandwidth in voice mode, 
and  bandwidth and shift in cw

In ssb, the outer knob is low cut and the inner knob is  high cut. 
These will speak as you turn the knobs and the voice will give you the 
values.   Adjust the high and low cut of the filters for your liking

In cw, the outer knob sets bandwidth and the inner knob sets shift. 
  If you want to use the cw auto tune feature, you  can't have the 
filter set too wide, or the shift too high, or  auto tune won't grab the 
signal.
