Subject: Re: OT What is apple TV?

howard:
I don't own an apple tv yet, however, just from what has been said so far on

this list I have determined this much:
The apple tv device is a stand alone device which connects to your internet
connection via wireless or through a cat5 type connection.
The apple tv device has vidio and audio output to go to a tv or sound
system, or a computer if that's what you want...regardless, it provides the
vidio/audio in/out connections.
The apple device does not require a computer of any kind in order to
function as advertized. It is, essentially a computer, but one that is
optimized for vidio and audio streams from the internet, or your home
network.
Apple TV has voice over built in, which means it is a native integral screen

reader which will allow you to use all functions of the device without any
sort of external device like a laptop etc.
As was said already, think of the apple tv device as a cable box, but with
full internet capability and the ability to stream content from either the
internet, or other devices connected to the home network.
That said, I believe you do start running into issues when trying to
directly stream content from windows based machines on your network via
apple tv...easily solved with an apple ICloud subscription where you can
upload any or all content from windows pc's or mac/IOS device to one place
and access it from any device.
Net flicks is a simple subscription based service which can be accessed from

any device using a user name and password set up through an account. I
think the subscription is 8 bucks a month, with the first month being free.
You access netflicks from the apple tv device directly and choose the
content you wish to stream right from there, no computer required.
Hope that makes sense.
If I've missed anything here, someone please correct or fill in the blanks.
