Hi All,


Last week I spent some time trying to install Google Drive onto one of 
my Windows 10 PCs. It was a lot less straight-forward than I remember, 
so I'm posting information here. The odd thing is that I remember 
installing Drive on another computer only a few months ago without 
anything unusual, so I don't know whether the difference is the app or 
something in the PC specs.


1. download and Install Google Drive (i.e., Backup and Sync) from

https://www.google.com/drive/download/


2. After installation, you find icons for Docs, Sheets, and Slides on 
your desktop. If you also find an icon for Google Drive on your desktop 
and a Google Drive folder among your user stuff (i.e., where your 
Documentss and downloads folders are), you're all done. If not, go on to 
Step 3.


3. Go into All Apps in Windows,, down-arrow to Backup and Sync, and 
press enter.


4. Backup and Sync contains four items: Backup and Sync, Docs, Sheets, 
and Slides. Press enter on Backup and Sync, and hunker down for a good 
wait. My desktop has moderate specs, and when I tried just now, it took 
about 30 seconds for the next screen to pop up. The very low-end laptop 
I was installing on during the week took a couple of minutes--literally. 
Also, the slowest and least accessible experience was Jaws though NVDA 
and Narrator weren't spectacular.


5. The next set of screens are the sign-in and set-up wizard. Tabbing 
and arrowing around mostly doesn't give you a lot of information, so use 
the read screen command and press enter. On maybe the second or third 
screen, there's a button for signing in via the web. Press enter there. 
Your browser launches, and if you're already signed into your Google 
account, you basically just give Google permission to share your data by 
pressing enter on an Allow button.


6. There may be another screen or two after that, asking if you want to 
back up your desktop and documents. Again, the screens themselves aren't 
very accessible. I wasn't able to figure out how to uncheck those 
options, for example. Just press enter to accept the defaults and move 
on to the next screen. When you're done, the Google Drive icon and 
folder appear, and if you already use Google Drive, your files start 
downloading from the cloud.
