I love my KX3. 

People seem to like the Sanyo Eneloop batteries. Low self discharge. 

For external power, I’m using a LiFePo battery from Batteryspace. Works good. Be careful about power supplies. Ideally, to avoid switching noise, especially being as it’s a direct conversion receiver, find a good linear supply, 4 amps or so should be more than enough. Probably 3 amps will be fine.
