You can open PDF documents in Word 2013. When you launch Word and
attempt to open a PDF, you get a warning that says that the file will be
optimized for editing but that the formatting may not be the same. Just
press enter on OK, and you're good to go. I really love this feature
because I also read research and no longer have to mess with converting
the files so I can annotate them.

Of course, this works only if the PDF has underlying text.

also, if the goal is to fill out PDF forms, in Word, this doesn't work.
Some forms don't open well. Other forms open, but the edit fields don't
work.

for research reading, however, this is great!
