Yes, of course, God did it because God certainly didn't cause the
lightening...that must have been the Devil that caused the lightening and
God protected Phil from it...except he didn't protect the power company, or
the guys who had to fix the power grid, or the gas station who probably had
to replace a bunch of electronics...odd dude this God...probably because God
really determines ones eligibility for protective services by how much
money, influence or authority one has...IE, he wouldn't protect the power
company against loss in a lightening strike because they're rich and
influential, but he would certainly protect Phil because he's just a citizen
who doesn't deserve any harm from lightening.
If this God is like you say, protective of just one person and not others, I
don't think I like your God very much. He seems like a fickle inconsistent,
unpredictable entity who seemingly just does things at random.
I just find it so very strange, illogical, unreasonable and down right
stupid, that out of one side of ones mouth, one says God creates all,
including lightening, and out of the other side, one says God protected you
from the lightening...why create something if you then have to protect
someone from it? seems illogical...but then again, this God seems pretty
illogical so I guess it's not strange after all.
I know, I know, we're just human, not meant to understand, and we are
supposed to have Faith...in other words, we, as Humans, come up with totally
off the wall crap on what God is and isn't, and we justify our garbage with
the concept that we are just too far beneath God to understand him.
From what I gather, God wants to be understood, and actually has gone to
great lengths to provide clear and concise explanations and reason to help
us understand him/her and what he/she does, and doesn't do. But, being
Human, as I said, we like to come up with our own justifications for lies
and mistruths and blame it on God. It's the american mentality after all.
Americans pray for football, for success in war, for money, for a new job
for a new car, and for the rains to grow the crops. They pray for sick Aunt
mary, and they pray for the lightening not to hit their house. They pray
for the poor blind because obviously, the devil caused that, and if only god
hears those prayers, he might do something about it...even though we thank
God for creating all things in that same prayer including disease and the
human condition.
Contradiction much?
The beautiful thing about all this is that everyone has the right to believe
what they want to believe...and no doubt, that is thanks to God as
well...though apparently in some places, he doesn't give a crap and so
people aren't allowed to believe what they want to believe without harm.
again, contradiction much?
And now we know why religion and politics are best left to churches, and
governments and coffee shops and bars, and not to email lists and on the
air.
